Do you feel the call of the moon on misty nights? Are you one with the natural world? Maybe you have a hex or two up your sleeve? Then it’s time to express those magical tendencies with the dark and ethereal witchcore aesthetic.

Mix and match with these witchcore outfit essentials to bring some black magic to your wardrobe.

Witchy Black Boots

Nothing says witchcraft like pointy black boots–ideally with lots of laces or buckles.

Long Black Shawl

This wardrobe essential adds an air of mystery and keeps you cozy when the weather turns chilly. Whether you go for a shawl, duster, kimono, or silk wrap, this outer layer should be wispy and dark.

Printed Midi Dress or Blouse

A black dress or blouse with a white pattern like moons, stars, snakes, tarot imagery, or forest creatures is a whimsical way to make a statement. Other great colors for a witchcore color palette would be olive green, purple, charcoal, and burgundy.

Bell Sleeve Top

Wide bell sleeves are fun and flirty and oh-so-witchy, bringing a bit of ‘70s style that says “black magic woman.”

Wide Brim Hat

A pointy witch hat might be a bit on the nose, but you can still rock a wide brim black hat to show the world your sorceress side (and keep the sun off).

Lacy White Maxi Dress

Sometimes a white dress is just the surprisingly spooky touch you need to elevate an otherwise dark aesthetic. Wear it with lace gloves to bring a tragic Victorian ghost vibe to your witchy wardrobe.

Patterned Tights

Black tights pull the whole outfit together. Go for classic fishnets or a fun pattern like flowers, snakes, or moons–or DIY some ripped tights for a bit of punk flair.

Black Mesh Shirt

Versatile and breathable black mesh shirts are everywhere this season, which is great news for fashionable witches. Lacy black sleeves are perfect for layering under a sleeveless dress or corset top to take your witchcore outfits from summer to fall.

Flower Crown

Last but not least, the finishing touch to a witchcore outfit is a dark flower crown. You can make your own with spooky materials like twigs and dried flowers for a Blair Witch vibe, or order one from Etsy.

Witchcore vs. Whimsigoth?

Witchcore and whimsigoth are two popular aesthetics with a lot of overlap: both are earthy and ethereal, both involve natural elements and motifs, and both owe a huge debt to Stevie Nicks.

However, there are a few differences. Witchcore leans a bit darker, involving mostly black clothing and pagan symbols such as pentagrams, runes, and baphomet designs, and other overt references to witch folklore.

Whimsigothic clothes have more of a bohemian vibe, combining lots of eclectic layers and patterns to create a relaxed aesthetic. It’s also a 90s throwback directly inspired by the grunge-boho looks that were popular from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s.

Unlike whimsigoth, witchcore is not directly inspired by a specific era of vintage fashion. Instead, it’s a timeless gothic aesthetic that incorporates themes of darkness and magic.
